Gift Like a Boss This National Boss’s Day
October 16 marks National Boss’s Day, a holiday dedicated to celebrating all employers and their connections with their staff. Many workers also use this opportunity to recognize their supervisors and other supporting staff for career-related help. If National Boss’s Day falls on a weekend — like it does this year — it is often celebrated on a working day closest to the date. This year, the occasion will be commemorated on Friday, October 15.
A little background on the holiday: Patricia Bays Haroski, a former employee at State Farm Insurance Company in Deerfield, Illinois, registered National Boss’s Day with the US Chamber of Commerce in 1958. She chose October 16 as the date because it was her father’s birthday, and he was her employer at the time. Haroski’s aim was to improve the relationship between employees and their supervisors. The holiday was officially proclaimed by Illinois Governor Otto Kerner four years later in 1962.
Today, the event is increasingly celebrated in workplaces throughout the country and even worldwide in countries such as Australia, India, and South Africa.
Bosses play a significant role in the life of the employee. They recognize their staff’s potential, give them career-making opportunities, push employees to meet their professional objectives and provide mentorship through good days and bad — why not use this opportunity to recognize them and show your appreciation?
There are many ways to celebrate your boss: schedule them for a day off, host an office potluck with their favorite foods, invite customers or clients to write testimonials about them, or gather the entire team and have them sign a card of appreciation.
Remember: a thank you note to the boss is great, but a Boss’s Day gift goes a long way.
Whether you’re looking for gifts for the work day, productivity boosters, or simple treats for the office, we have you covered for all kinds of gift ideas for bosses.

Send them a Himalayan Salt Oil Warmer for their office. This lamp will illuminate their office space while purifying the air they breathe. Featuring therapeutic-grade essential oil, it’ll provide a relaxing aromatherapy experience whenever they’re ready to wind down from a stressful meeting or work day.

The work day has a way of stretching us past our limits. The big boss knows this better than anyone else. Send them a token of appreciation that’ll increase their productivity at work.
This caffeinated gift basket from Harry & David is ideal for the coffee lover. With two bags of gourmet Moose Munch ground coffee, lemon citrus shortbread cookies, chocolate chip button cookies, and stroopwafels, this assortment will make the perfect gift for the meal-skipping boss who works long hours.
Is your boss a note-taker? Do they jot things down aggressively during meetings? If so, why not elevate their office style with some stylish notebooks, pencils, and sticky notes from vineyard vines?
Nothing says “thank you boss” quite like a Geneva Pen Set from Brighton. This elegant pen and pen holder in silver is bound to add an artful flourish to their desk. Plus, they’ll think of you every time they scribble. (If you’re planning ahead, this pen set would also make a wonderful Christmas gift for bosses!)
Indulge Their Hobbies
Adding a personal touch when selecting gifts for your boss goes a long way. If you’ve recently discovered they have a green thumb, give them a plant or two for their office sill. It’ll boost their creativity at work, and serve as a meaningful reminder that you care.
Opt for a bamboo plant, bonsai, or some low-maintenance succulents so they don’t have to go out of their way to accommodate plant care into their busy schedules.
Perhaps your boss is obsessed with tea — give them a thoughtful, three-piece tea gift set, complete with a yellow porcelain tea cup and lid.
Even the world’s best boss has a hard time slowing down for self-care and dehydration. Give them a triple-insulated stainless steel tumbler from vineyard vines so they can hydrate easily on the go. This 25 oz container keeps drinks cold for up to 25 hours or hot for up to 12 hours without any condensation.
